For creating these images, everything starts with photographs that I take myself. Most of the ones I find useful don't actually have a subject; instead, I use them as patterns of natural light. Sometimes I use a digital camera or my phone to take these photos, other times I use older analog cameras I still have. If I shoot film, I develop the film myself using a dark-bag.

Then I choose one main image, which becomes the foundation of the composition. From there, I add other images above or below it in my photo editing program, like layers. As the "stack" of layers grows, I experiment with different ways of making the images blend and interact with each other. I dial in more or less of each layer, or let through only certain parts, so that the textures, shapes, and details appear only where and how I prefer to see them in the final image.
