THIS SOFTWARE PLACED INTO THE PUBLIC DOMAIN

                              Paris, October 1997
  Welcome to EOUE/LQNT !

What you have downloaded is C-code that will help you in writing
programs working with Japanese characters, more specifically with
katakana, hiragana and the 1945 so-called joyo kanji.

EOUE is conceived as an add-on or code-base to your programs, and
although a demonstration program is provided in executable form,
it is not stand-alone software, but rather for developing new code.

I expressly encourage you to use my code to make something better
out of it - maybe something educational that teaches Japanese, or
a small editor. That's what this library is for.

EOUE is free, copy and paste whatever part of it you find useful.
The reason I made EOUE is simply interest in programming and the
Japanese language. I am not a professional programmer, but I plan
to add things to EOUE and promote it to a windows environment.
Maybe I could write more documentation. VGA640.C would have a lot
to say, because assembly code is not self explanatory.

  LASTLY,
LQNT complements EOUE to make it Eloquent. To date, it's a sad
wreck, but it's supposed to be some sort of programmable editor
I'd like to have for doing programming in a kanji environment...
For the moment it's there for you to see what EOUE is for.

  INSTALLATION NOTES:

Unzip LQNT.ZIP in one, EOUE-SRC.ZIP in another directory.

LQNT.ZIP contains source for a semi-function Japanese text editor.
EOUE-SRC.ZIP is a code-library for Japanese text display on DOS PCs.

Unzip OLD-SRC.ZIP only if you *really* would like to have 256 colours, etc.
If not, it's better to stick to the new 640 pixel screen version!
  (And he said:)
For MORE INFORMATION on how to use all this, make a temporary directory
and unzip OLD-SRC.ZIP _inside_ the temporary directory.
Go inside and read. Don't let things escape from within, it's a Pandorra.
